Out of the Darkness - Wall Art

Suicide has long been a taboo subject. People who suffer the pain of depression and bipolar syndrome sometimes find they are overwhelmed. The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) aims to bring this tragedy out of the darkness of silence, by providing education and awareness programs to the public and in the schools. One way to raise awareness is through public events. In October, 2016, the AFSP sponsored a 5k walk, titled Out of the Darkness, in Salem, Oregon. The walk began and ended at Riverfront City Park. The photos in this collection are from that walk. Some are poignant, some are troubling, but all of them are intended to celebrate the lives lost to suicide, with the hope that their lives will bring troubled others, many of whom are adolescents, out of the darkness.
